The festive season is in full swing (YAY) and will continue to hang around for a while so it’s important to stay healthy AND happy! There has seriously been an event or gathering almost every night for the last 2 weeks! Everyone is on holidays, we all want to celebrate and so we should! I’m not here to tell you that you cant indulge, I’m here to tell you not to over-indulge, there’s a difference. Everything in moderation is key.

Here are our 13 tips to staying happy and healthy during the festive season:

  1. Keep up your health routine.
  2. Just because you’re on holidays doesn’t mean you should throw away all of your healthy habits. If you usually have lemon water upon waking or religiously drink 3L of water a day keep this up. Don’t let the festive season become your excuse.
  3. Greens, greens, greens.
When you see greens at an event or dinner eat them! Have extra greens throughout the day, if you have a smoothie of a morning try and switch to a green smoothie, you can find a great recipe here. Greens help to alkalize the body and will support detoxification.
  4. Don’t go to an event starving hungry.
If you have an event coming up eat something sustainable before you go, especially if its an event that is mainly finger food and snacking. Think cheese boards, alcohol and potato chips. Still have them if you want but eat enough protein before you go so you wont over indulge.
  5. Stay hydrated.
Sometimes we confuse hunger for thirst. Drinking plenty of water will help keep your skin merry and bright. Aim for 3L a day.
  6. Who cares if you over indulge?
If you over-indulge don’t make yourself for it. It’s the holiday season its okay to do that every now and again, but don’t make a habit of it for every meal or you will have low energy and feel bloated. Don’t you want to be the best version of you these holidays so you can soak every minute up?!
  7. Make healthy nutritious food if you go to an event.
If you’re going to an event where you need to take a platter to share make a healthy option. When you do that you have no excuse not to get some healthy food in before you have your favourite chocolate and chips!
  8. Get active in the morning.
Before the day gets hectic with plans for fun in the sun or plans to do absolutely nothing all day and just relax get some exercise in first thing in the morning.
  9. Be kind to yourself.
Keep up your self-care and self-love routines. Maybe you love to meditate or do yoga everyday. Keep this up so you feel amazing and stay grounded. Plus if you’ve done something to love yourself up you will feel less guilty about indulging. WIN/WIN.
  10. 20 minutes of exercise everyday.
Is all you need! Maybe it’s a light walk on the beach. A morning yoga session or stretch class. Maybe its an ab workout at home. Anything is better then nothing!
  11. Don’t change your routine because your kids are at school.
Don’t use your kiddies as an excuse not to exercise bring them with you!
  12. Fail to plan; plan to fail.
Plan your exercise in and fit it into your day. And, if you too busy you can always get up 15 minutes earlier!

Have an amazing holiday season everyone, you deserve it! x
